Every vehicle that was in contention to win Motor Trend’s Car of the Year award was evaluated using six criteria, including advancement in design, excellence in engineering, safety, efficiency, value, and performance. These key criteria represent what drivers want most in their next automobile. In addition to being evaluated, every contender for the Car of the Year award was road tested in real-life situations that included navigating poorly aligned railroad crossings, steep grades, and imperfect pavement.
